weissraum is a group of design students from Dessau. It was founded in 2022 as a way to bring life to Dessau and refresh its art scene. Mainly, we organize exhibitions on and around campus and create open calls. In the past weissraum exhibitions were hosted at Kunstverein Dessau, HS-Anhalt, Kolster (monastery) Bernburg and Schillig Dessau.
This Project discusses the creation of one exhibition in particular, as it was only organizes by me and another student. But my work at weissraum far extends this one project, and I contributed to the organization of many exhibitions.
Since 2021 "Kunst für'n Fuffi" is an annual event hosted at "Schillig Dessau". "Schillig" is an open space for creative People and to finally support this place, this annual exhibition is held as a fundraiser to raise money.
In 2022 113 works by 30 different artists were on display at the exhibition, submitted by mostly students and local artists. For the exhibition we organized everything from Printing and advertising the open call and exhibition, communication with artists, hanging and curating the art, organizing "staff" to sell the art and printing a catalogue to give visitors a better overview over the available art.
My role was mainly to organize, communicate with artists and to plan the exhibition. The other Team member did most of the execution of the discussed graphics such as Posters, Flyers and such. Together we developed the concept of the exhibition and its Design and curated the submissions. After all the works were submitted, I created a catalog for all visitors to view.
The catalog contains a small picture of each work, as well as the artist's name, dimensions and medium, and serves to give the public a better overview. I also created small cards with the same information that everyone took home with their purchased artwork.
This exhibition was titled "gruen" (green) and set as an open call and was on display during our annual Design show at Uni. I was part of planning and curating, as well as setting up the room and art.
I exhibited the last two posters seen on the Poster page →. "Against art" and "summer for some, summer for me".
