Inspiration
And concept

The film "Aden" draws its inspiration from the captivating photography of Michael Kenna and Ansel Adams, particularly Adams' work in Yellowstone National Park. With a strong focus on capturing the essence of nature, the film's scenic composition pays homage to Adams' iconic imagery, while the atmospheric tone is influenced by Kenna's evocative and ethereal style.

Filming

The film was shot using a Red Epic Dragon 6K. For lenses, I utilized an XEEN 85mm, Zeiss Milvus 50mm, and a Canon 16-35mm zoom lens. Most shots were captured using a shoulder rig.

The majority of the footage was filmed at "Steinhuder Meer" and the northwestern parts of the Harz Mountains.

post PRODUCTION

Most shots were captured in 4K or 6K resolution, with frame rates ranging from 1fps to 120fps. In total, approximately 512 GB of raw color material was generated during the filming process. For editing purposes, I used DaVinci Resolve and applied the three steps seen in the pictures to all the shots before cutting.

1. transform shots into black and white

2. contrasts adjusted to a similar level across al shots

3. mask shots to accentuate and highlight

Sound

I created the entire sound design myself, as all of my shots were recorded without audio. This approach allowed for a more consistent result without any harsh cuts in the audio. To achieve this, I utilized sound libraries from HS-Anhalt and the BBC.
