This book is about thinking about the past and raising awareness for the future. Topics the that can be found in the book are Loneliness, Conservative, Capitalism, Working society, Role of women, War, Poverty, Consumption, Regimes and the German Democratic Republic (former East Germany). Those are targeted to raise awareness for things lived in the past and the possibility of reoccurrence.
The title is written on the front and back. The Front says 2056 the back 1956, suggesting the book might contain the future but at the same time the past.
I choose generating images and collecting them in a fully artificial "Photo" Book. This approach plays with the boundaries of what really is a photo. At first glance, all the images seem to be normal photos, but on further inspection it is quite obvious that the images are not real.
One of the most important steps during this was generating a coherent world that seems possible and plays with things of our past. I achieved this by rewriting my prompts, remixing a lot of the images, picking the best images and doing it all over again.
The book itself was created to be a strong contrast to the images, the images all generated and thereby machine made. In contrast, the book is visibly hand made, the open binding is to support this feel.
This project was part of a class aiming to dive deeper into the possibilities of Ai. I started off by randomly generating a series of images with Midjourney V5. My aim was to create highly aesthetic pictures that still hold a kind of unsettling feel to it.
